FACE Fire -2-

Matthew was disturbed from his nap by a strange smell. At first he didn't react to it at all simply assuming that something was burning in the kitchen. Francis had probably stopped it by now anyway. It wasn't rare that his papa got distracted and accidentally let something burn so Matthew wasn't alarmed. But soon, his entire room was filled with smoke. Matthew started coughing and fell out of his bed freaked out by this insane amount of smoke and the rising temperature in his room. He dashed for the door wanting to go see what's going on but as soon as his hand came in contact with the doorknob he pulled his hand away. It was piping hot and burned his hand. That's when he caught on to what was happening. The house was on fire, and he was trapped.

As soon as Matthew realised this he started calling for help as loud as his now smoke infested  lungs would let him. Frantically searching for a way out, Matthew started ramming into the door as hard as he could trying to exit the death trap he was now in resulting in nothing more than burning himself on the piping hot door. Before he could find himself a way out Matthew collapsed choking on the smoke filling up the room. He couldn't see anything anymore but he could feel the room around him getting hotter and hotter as the fire started coming into the room. Matthew's calls for help finally subsided when he passed out from lack of oxygen, the entire house burning around him.

Alfred ran into the house and found himself in the middle of his house full of smoke and flames. Even though this was his house and he'd lived there all his life, he could barely tell which room he was in or which way Mattie's room was. He started coughing harshly from all of the smoke. Searching through the extreme temperature of the burning house around him Alfred cried out.

"MATTIE! *cough cough* MATTIE WHERE ARE YOU!?"

No response

This made Alfred's worry double over as he searched for Matthew's room twice as fast. Was he too late? Had the flames reached him and cornered him before he even knew what was happening? Could he already be...dead? NO! He didn't want to consider that option. He absolutely had to find him and bring him back alive because if he died in this fire, it would be because of him. Because of his failure to notice and remember him...again!

Alfred forced himself deeper into the fire eventually making it to his brothers flaming bedroom door.

"MATTIE!! GOD DAMMIT ANSWER ME!!"

Still no answer

The door was on fire making it impossible for him to simply open it. So with only his leather jacket as protection from the flames he rammed through the already weakened door.

That's when he finally found him.

"MATTIE!"

He was lying motionless in the center of the room. His skin had started to burn from the heat of the flames surrounding him. Quickly, Alfred grabbed him and put him on his back holding on to one of his legs and one of his arms.

"STAY WITH ME MATTIE! *cough* YOU HEAR ME DUDE!? DON'T YOU DARE DIE ON ME!"

Alfred screamed to his unconscious brother on his back as he started advancing towards an exit as fast as he could. If Mattie stayed in here much longer Alfred was very afraid that he would die. He was going to do anything in his power to stop that from happening. But the fire was consuming almost all of the oxygen and Alfred started feeling that he himself wouldn't last much longer in here.

Then he saw it, the open front door and the sunlight coming from it. Even though his strength was fading and he had a lot of trouble breathing he started moving faster and faster which was painful, but he had to do it. He had to save his brother. As he got closer and closer to the door his consciousness was fading and he couldn't breathe anymore but he fought and struggled to get out of the burning house. Alfred only barely made it out of the house weakly passing out on the front lawn collapsing underneath his brother who was still on his back.
